In Parse's ChatGPT review-platform sample, Gartner Peer Insights and G2 were the strongest citation sources. Gartner Peer Insights accounted for 39.8% of classified review-platform citation references, and G2 accounted for 37.5%. Capterra, Software Advice, and TrustRadius still appeared, but they were secondary citation layers rather than the primary ChatGPT review-site baseline.
Parse tracks AI visibility across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity, analyzing 3.85 million indexed prompt responses across 577K+ brands and 47.25 million citation observations. For this analysis, we queried Parse production data from January 1 through June 8, 2026, filtering ChatGPT citation references to five software review platforms: Gartner Peer Insights, G2, Capterra, Software Advice, and TrustRadius. The classified slice contained 183,015 citation references, 23,269 distinct cited sources, 5,422 prompts, and 106,380 cited responses.
- Gartner Peer Insights led the sample with 72,884 ChatGPT citation references, or 39.8% of classified review-platform citations.
- G2 followed closely with 68,592 citation references, or 37.5%, and had the broadest prompt coverage at 4,414 prompts.
- Capterra, Software Advice, and TrustRadius mattered, but together represented 22.7% of the classified review-platform citation layer.
- The category map was uneven: review-platform citations appeared across 32 Parse niches, but only a few niches had high enough volume for category-specific conclusions.
- Treat review sites as evidence surfaces. ChatGPT citation share does not mean the platform "endorses" one marketplace.
What does trust mean in this analysis?
"Trust" means citation use, not endorsement. ChatGPT can cite a review site because the page is crawlable, relevant to the prompt, structured around comparison intent, or strong enough to support a product-selection answer. That is different from saying OpenAI ranks one marketplace above another or that a buyer should treat the cited site as objectively better.
The distinction matters because review platforms serve different jobs. Gartner Peer Insights is strongest in enterprise software contexts where vetted IT-buyer reviews and market categories matter. G2 is broad, buyer-facing, and comparison-heavy. Capterra, Software Advice, and TrustRadius often support evaluation, category discovery, or long-tail software selection. OpenAI's ChatGPT search documentation says search-backed answers can include inline citations, so we measured the citation layer ChatGPT exposed in answers, not an internal model preference (OpenAI).
Which review site did ChatGPT cite most?
Gartner Peer Insights led the classified sample by citation references. It appeared 72,884 times across 54,348 cited ChatGPT responses and 3,371 prompts. G2 was close behind with 68,592 citation references across 54,777 cited responses and 4,414 prompts. That creates a split answer: Gartner Peer Insights led by raw citation volume, while G2 reached more distinct prompts.
That difference is operationally important. If you sell enterprise infrastructure, security, observability, data, or IT management software, Gartner Peer Insights is often a high-priority evidence surface. If you sell across broader SaaS categories, G2's prompt breadth makes it harder to ignore. The existing G2 and Capterra optimization playbook still applies, but this data says Capterra should not automatically be the first review-site investment for ChatGPT visibility.
How do G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, Software Advice, and Gartner compare?
The comparison is not close after the top two. Gartner Peer Insights and G2 together represented 77.3% of classified ChatGPT review-platform citation references in the sample. Capterra represented 12.7%, Software Advice 6.1%, and TrustRadius 3.9%. That does not make the smaller platforms irrelevant. It means they are usually secondary surfaces unless your exact category or buyer segment depends on them.
| Review platform | Citation references | Share of classified review-platform citations | Distinct cited sources | Distinct prompts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gartner Peer Insights | 72,884 | 39.8% | 6,919 | 3,371 |
| G2 | 68,592 | 37.5% | 8,598 | 4,414 |
| Capterra | 23,231 | 12.7% | 3,545 | 2,383 |
| Software Advice | 11,105 | 6.1% | 2,464 | 1,641 |
| TrustRadius | 7,203 | 3.9% | 1,743 | 1,380 |
The practical read is simple: start with the platforms ChatGPT already cites for your category, then improve the profile, review volume, category fit, and comparative context there before spreading effort across every review marketplace.

Why might Gartner Peer Insights and G2 lead?
Both platforms give ChatGPT pages that map cleanly to software-buying prompts. Gartner Peer Insights emphasizes verified enterprise-technology reviews and market categories. G2 publishes product profiles, category pages, comparisons, and buyer-oriented marketplace context. Those page types fit prompts like "best endpoint security software," "top observability tools," or "alternatives to vendor X."
Capterra also publishes category and comparison surfaces, and its public site says it has more than 2.5 million verified reviews. The lower ChatGPT citation share in this sample does not mean Capterra lacks buyer value. It means ChatGPT cited Gartner Peer Insights and G2 more often in the observed software-review slice. For operators, the next step is category-specific inspection, not a blanket rule. A vertical field-service product and an enterprise data-loss-prevention product may have different review-site source graphs.
What should a B2B SaaS team do with this?
Do not turn the ranking into a generic review-generation program. Use it as a triage order. First, check whether ChatGPT cites Gartner Peer Insights, G2, Capterra, Software Advice, or TrustRadius for the prompts your buyers ask. Second, check whether your brand appears on the cited pages. Third, compare the cited page type: category page, product profile, alternatives page, comparison page, review page, or award page.
That page-type distinction determines the work. A missing product profile needs profile cleanup and category alignment. A cited comparison page that excludes you needs competitive positioning and review velocity. A cited category page where competitors outrank you needs buyer proof, recent reviews, and accurate taxonomy. This is the same logic behind which domains AI models cite most: source frequency is only useful when it becomes an action list. Parse's data on this: the source domains AI cites most.
What are the category limitations?
The category map was broad but uneven. Review-platform citations mapped to 32 Parse niches through prompt membership, but only six had at least 100 classified citation references in the joined niche view. The highest-volume examples were SaaS spend and asset management platforms, cloud infrastructure management and security, observability and SRE monitoring platforms, data loss prevention software, field service management software, and corporate treasury management software.
That means the all-platform ranking is more stable than any category-specific conclusion in this run. The top-level finding is strong: Gartner Peer Insights and G2 dominated the observed ChatGPT review-site citation layer. A category-specific recommendation still needs its own prompt panel. If your category is low-volume in the public corpus, treat this article as a starting hypothesis and inspect the exact prompts before shifting budget or review-generation effort.
What are the caveats in this data?
This is a ChatGPT citation analysis, not a buyer-conversion study. The sample covers citation references exposed in Parse's ChatGPT data from January 1 through June 8, 2026. It filters URLs to five review-platform domains and classifies them by source URL. It does not include every software marketplace, and it does not prove that citations caused a brand recommendation.
Platform behavior also changes. Semrush found visible movement in AI citation composition across a three-month study window, including shifts in ChatGPT source behavior (Semrush). OpenAI also distinguishes crawlers used for search from crawlers used for training, which means profile accessibility, search inclusion, and model memory are separate questions (OpenAI). Refresh the slice before treating the exact percentages as permanent.
FAQ
Does ChatGPT trust Gartner Peer Insights more than G2?
In this Parse sample, Gartner Peer Insights had more classified ChatGPT review-platform citation references than G2: 72,884 versus 68,592. G2 appeared across more distinct prompts, so the right interpretation is split. Gartner led citation volume, while G2 had broader prompt coverage.
Does ChatGPT cite Capterra?
Yes. Capterra represented 23,231 classified citation references in the sample, or 12.7% of the measured review-platform citation layer. That is meaningful, but it trailed Gartner Peer Insights and G2 by a wide margin in this ChatGPT slice.
Should every SaaS company prioritize G2 first?
No. G2 is a strong default because it had broad prompt coverage, but enterprise software categories may need Gartner Peer Insights first. The right sequence depends on which review sites ChatGPT cites for your buyer prompts and whether your brand appears on those cited pages.
Do review-site citations guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my brand?
No. A citation is evidence, not a guaranteed recommendation. ChatGPT can cite a review site while recommending competitors, or mention a brand without citing the review site. Track citations, brand mentions, competitor context, and prompt intent together.
The answer is not "pick one review site forever." The answer is to stop treating review platforms as interchangeable SEO listings. In this ChatGPT slice, Gartner Peer Insights and G2 carried most of the review-platform citation layer. Start there, then let your category prompt set decide whether Capterra, Software Advice, or TrustRadius deserves the next unit of effort.
