How AI describes EnergyPlus

EnergyPlus is a free, open-source, cross-platform building energy and water-use simulation program used by engineers, architects, and researchers to model energy consumption for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, plug loads, and water use in buildings. It provides a heat-balance–based solution for radiant and convective effects, sub-hourly time steps, advanced fenestration and daylighting models, and a component-based HVAC system with extensive built-in control strategies and scripting capabilities. The project is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, managed by NREL, and distributed with companion tools (IDF-Editor, EP-Launch, EP-Compare); major updates are released twice annually, and it is part of the DOE/OpenStudio ecosystem.
