The NSF I-Corps program is an immersive, seven-week entrepreneurial training program that prepares scientists and engineers to extend their work beyond the university lab and accelerate the commercialization of NSF-funded and other basic research. Its mission is to reduce the risk and time required to translate technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace by using experiential education to build an entrepreneurial workforce and innovation ecosystem. Since 2012, more than 2,500 teams have participated, with roughly 1,400 launching startups that have raised about $3.16 billion in follow-on funding, with cohorts of 20–30 teams hosted by I-Corps Hubs or Nodes.
