This would be my first choice for most sonographers. SDMS is specifically focused on diagnostic medical sonography and offers a large library of on-demand CME covering specialties such as abdomen, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, cardiac, MSK, and more.

The biggest advantage is the SDMS CME Tracker: for members, SDMS-approved credits are automatically transmitted to ARDMS and ARRT (and CCI when its current transmission transition is resolved).

ASRT is particularly useful if you're ARRT-certified or need broader imaging-related CE. Its online library includes courses, journal-based learning and recorded webcasts, and it has a dedicated sonography category.

🥉 Other good options

Ultrasound-specific CME providers can be great if you want to knock out a large number of credits quickly. Options frequently used by sonographers include:

• 123Sonography — extensive ultrasound education and courses
• Ultrasound Town — ultrasound-focused CME and educational material
• IAME — online CME across medical-imaging specialties
• ERADIMAGING — radiology/ultrasound continuing education
• SDMS — still my recommendation for the easiest all-around option

There is also anecdotal support from sonographers for these types of services, particularly when looking for inexpensive, self-paced CME, although I'd verify acceptance for your particular credential before purchasing.

One important change for ARDMS

If you're ARDMS-certified, don't look only at the CME number anymore. ARDMS's maintenance requirements changed beginning in 2026, including an annual Knowledge Confirmation component through its SKILLS platform. That means you'll want to make sure you're satisfying both your CME requirements and the current MOC requirements.

SDMS currently summarizes the ARDMS requirement as 25 CME credits plus MOC during each three-year CME period, though your individual ARDMS status/cycle should be checked before relying on that number.
