NIST's AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) is a voluntary framework to help organizations manage risks from AI by embedding trustworthiness into the design, development, use, and evaluation of AI products, services, and systems. Released January 26, 2023, it was developed by NIST's ITL AI Program through a consensus-driven process and includes a companion Playbook, Roadmap, Crosswalk, and Perspectives to guide implementation. NIST continues to update AI RMF with revisions and new profiles, such as the Generative AI Profile (AI-600-1) released July 26, 2024, and a Trustworthy AI in Critical Infrastructure profile introduced via an April 7, 2026 concept note.
